Iran agrees to extend inspection time for nuclear facilities

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN nuclear watchdog, has said Iran has agreed to extend its inspection of nuclear facilities by up to three months. News from the BBC.

However, in this case, the country has met the conditions. IAEA officials will have limited access to inspections and will not be able to conduct any emergency tours.

The United States has not lifted sanctions on Iran since former US President Donald Trump abandoned the nuclear deal in 2015. This has caused huge damage to Iran’s economy in the last few years. For this reason, the country is going to change the policy of inspecting nuclear facilities from Tuesday.

Due to the blockade, Iran also violated the terms of the agreement and resumed its nuclear program in 2019. The country has announced that uranium enrichment will increase to 20 percent by the beginning of this year.

Iran has said it will not change its nuclear program if the United States does not fully comply with the 2015 agreement. Over the past 20 years, Iran’s nuclear program has become one of the most important issues in world politics. Iran says it is pursuing a peaceful nuclear program; Despite claims by the United States and its allies, Iran is secretly working to build a nuclear weapon.

But with the increase in visits, Washington and Tehran will now have more time to negotiate.

A law passed by Iranian lawmakers on Tuesday barred IAEA experts from inspecting nuclear facilities for short-term or off-the-shelf visits.

After talks with Tehran this weekend, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said: “There is this law. This law will be enforced. This means that additional protocols will be suspended. It’s a pity for me. ‘

He added, ‘The scope of the visit is limited now, we have to accept it. But even then we will be able to make the necessary observations and verifications.

The Biden administration recently expressed a desire to discuss nuclear activities with Iran. The increase in the time spent inspecting nuclear facilities gave more time to organize these discussions.
