The Austrian Ministry of Health has confirmed that Russia has shown interest in the production of the Sputnik V vaccine in the country, the national daily Die Kleine Zeitung reported, quoted by Focus.
Moscow is in talks with local pharmaceutical companies, Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s state fund, said.
The Russian vaccine has already been approved in 30 countries around the world – and last but not least, it remains a bone of contention in the European Union. Sputnik V is not yet used in Europe, with the exception of Hungary.
Dmitriev noted: Russia wants to produce the vaccine in Austria in the future. “Austria has some of the best pharmaceutical companies in the world. Therefore, we are negotiating with some of these companies – both for the production of the vaccine and for export to other countries. ” However, he did not want to disclose the names of the companies in question, as this would expose the companies to “public pressure”.
