Eldina Jaganjac (31) decided not to pluck her eyebrows and shave her earrings. This teacher from Copenhagen was thinking about why women would have to do it, while it was completely left to men as an option. That frustration has grown over the years, especially the expectations of modern society from women when it comes to looks.
She wondered why women would have to remove all the hair from the body – from the eyebrows, earrings, armpits, legs and intimate parts, and men do not have to? Revolted, Eldina said one big “no” to razors, epilators, wax, tweezers in March last year, and decided she would no longer remove hair from her body.
She says that she doesn’t care what she looks like, but that she still has to deal with men’s ugly, comments on the street, which throw her to break it or stare at her eyebrows as if she has a third eye. It doesn’t affect her because it’s her filter and she knows exactly who she shouldn’t be with.
– Before I let my eyebrows grow so much that they merged, I thought that no one would notice or comment on a man, but on the other hand, women would be immediately told to remove their hair. I used to feel very nervous when I had to leave the house without my eyebrows being broken and I didn’t go to the gym if my legs weren’t shaved – said the teacher.
She added that she chose to focus on the important goals and tasks she needs to do and achieve, and to pay much less attention to what she looks like. She says that she was uncomfortable at first, but now she is very happy with herself.
Frida Kahlo is a famous Mexican painter, who, in addition to exceptional art, was known as a feminist and a woman who did not pluck her eyebrows and shave. She was a leader in modern and surreal painting in Mexico. She often painted her self-portraits where she showed her emotions. Her life and art are the plot of the film of the same name, in which her character was revived by Salma Hayek.
