A gendarme on the dock today at the Court of Assizes of Basse-Terre. This is Captain Romain Dobritz, prosecuted for the murder of Yannick Locatelli, the night of March 11, 2018, in Dalciat, Baie-Mahault. The trial is due to last three days.
It is this Monday, February 22, 2021, at 8:30 am, that the trial of Captain of the Gendarmerie Romain Dobritz, at the Assize Court of Basse-Terre, is to begin.
The soldier is being prosecuted for murder.
Remember: on Sunday March 11, 2018, the gendarme fatally injured a man, near the Dalciat gas station, in Baie-Mahault, at 9:15 p.m.
The alleged facts
That evening, they were two soldiers, looking for a suspect, the author of several burglaries in the area and who was driving, with a false license plate, according to the report received.
The two gendarmes would have set up a surveillance, in uniform, but in an unmarked car.
According to their testimony, the victim, Yannick Locatelli, 35 years old from Nice, would have refused to submit to their roadside check and would have tried to flee.
During the debates, the Assize Court will have to determine under what precise circumstances, Captain Romain Dobritz, commander of the autonomous territorial gendarmerie brigade of Baie-Mahault, then opened fire on this driver … on seven occasions .
Yannick Locatelli was in cardio-respiratory arrest when the emergency services arrived at the scene; they couldn’t revive him.
The man had, with his partner, two little daughters aged 12 and 7, in 2018.
Immediately after the facts, Romain Dobritz was taken into custody.
His version of the facts, evoking a situation of imminent danger which prompted him to open fire, was confirmed by his colleague, of whom he was the hierarchical superior.
Very quickly we also learned more about the victim. It turns out that Yannick Locatelli was known to law enforcement in the Hexagon. He had, in fact, been sentenced, eight times, to life imprisonment or on probation, in cases of theft and drug trafficking, according to the statement made at the time by the Public Prosecutor. of Pointe-à-Pitre, Xaxier Bonhomme.
Elements of the survey
A video recording, coming from a camera in the shopping area, will allow the research section to significantly advance its investigation. The images would reveal a scene very different from that described by the two gendarmes present at the time of the events, including the shooter.
The use of the military’s service weapon seems much less justified.
The second gendarme, Cyrhus Borhani, who reconsidered his testimony during his custody, risks being a key witness during the proceedings.
The family demands justice
The fear of Yannick Locatelli’s ex-companion, Alexandra Cerutti, is that justice will not be done to him, because of the profession of the alleged murderer.
The trial of Captain Romain Dobritz, at the Assize Court of Basse-Terre, is to be held over three days, until Wednesday February 24, 2021.
