Coronavirus: The French Riviera will go lockdown for the next two weekends

There is currently a ban on going out after 6 pm throughout France.

The French Riviera will introduce a lockdown for the next two weekends. The reason is the rapid spread of coronavirus in the region. The local authorities, quoted by the AFP agency, informed about it on Monday.

At the same time, the region will tighten controls at airports and the Italian border over the next two weeks. All stores with an area of more than 5,000 square meters will also be closed.

France’s fifth largest city and the capital of the Nice region has seen about 700 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in recent days, up to three times the national average.

Residents of the region will be allowed to leave the house for one hour a day within a radius of five kilometers from their residence during the weekend lockdown. Measures during the next two weekends will take effect on Friday at 6 pm and will last until Monday at 6 am.

Unlike other countries in the world, France avoids the introduction of a third national lockdown. Analysts consider President Emmanuel Macron’s decision in favor of the economy to be risky, AFP said.

There is currently a ban on going out after 6 pm throughout France.
