George Maior and Emil Hurezeanu, recalled from the positions of ambassadors in the USA and Germany. What other diplomats have been fired


President Klaus Iohannis signed the decrees calling back more than 20 ambassadors to the Central, the most well-known names being those of the Romanian ambassador to the United States, George Maior, and of the Romanian representative in Berlin, Emil Hurezeanu.

We present the full communiqué of the Presidential Administration:

“The President of Romania, Mr. Klaus Iohannis, signed the following decrees on Monday, February 22:

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Emilian-Horaţiu Hurezeanu as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Federal Republic of Germany;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. George-Cristian Maior as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the United States of America;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Bogdan Mazuru as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Austria;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Vlad Vasiliu as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Swiss Confederation and to the Principality of Liechtenstein, residing in Bern;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Ovidiu Dranga as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Poland;

  • Decree on the recall of Mrs. Steluţa Arhire as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Slovak Republic;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Liviu-Petru Zăpîrţan as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Holy See and to the Sovereign Military Order of Malta;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Adrian-Gabriel Davidoiu as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Kingdom of Norway;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Lilian Zamfiroiu as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg;

  • Decree on the recall of Mrs. Manuela Breazu as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Ireland;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Dan Iancu as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Azerbaijan;

  • Decree on the recall of Mrs. Svetlana-Tatiana Iosiper as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Japan;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Marcel Alexandru as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Algerian Democratic and People’s Republic and to the Republic of Niger, residing in Algiers;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Nicolae Comănescu as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Nicuşor-Daniel Tănase as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the State of Kuwait;

  • Decree on the recall of Ms. Iulia Pataki as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Uganda, the Republic of Burundi, the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Rwanda, residing in Nairobi;

  • Decree on the recall of Ms. Gentiana Serbu as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, the Commonwealth of Dominica, the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, the Community of the Bahamas and Barbados, residing in Havana;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Marius Constantin Borănescu as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of South Africa, the Republic of Namibia, the Republic of Botswana, the Kingdom of Lesotho, the Republic of Mozambique, the Republic of Zambia, the Kingdom of Eswatini, the Republic of Seychelles, the Republic of Madagascar, the Union of the Comoros and the Republic of Mauritius, residing in Pretoria;

  • Decree on the recall of Mrs. Monica-Mihaela Ştirbu as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Chile;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Ştefan Mera as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Suriname and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, residing in Brasilia;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Dan Stoenescu as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Tunisia;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Mihai Ciompec as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Korea;

  • Decree on the recall of Mr. Cezar-Manole Armeanu as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, with residence in Nur-Sultan ”.
