Seven brightly colored stray dogs pose a mystery to the authorities of a Russian city. The animals were taken to veterinary clinics for examination. Russian media see a closed factory as a possible reason.
After the photos of the unusual dogs became public, animal rights activists in Russia sounded the alarm, as reported by the newspaper “The Moskow Times”. They wondered if there was a health risk for the animals.
A total of seven blue dogs were taken to veterinary clinics for examination, according to local authorities. Various tests were carried out on them there.
According to Ria Nowostu, the tests did not result in any abnormal values in any of the seven animals. Except for the unusual coat color, everything is fine with the dogs. Two of the strays have since found new owners.
But what happened to the dogs? As the “Ria Novosti” agency reported, citing an insolvency administrator, they had probably previously walked around the site of a disused Plexiglas factory and possibly fell into copper sulfate. The authorities said they had contacted the company about this.
Even a member of the State Duma recently intervened in the mysterious case: It must be clarified whether the substances are dangerous for people, said the chairman of the Environment Committee, Vladimir Burmatov, in an interview with the radio station Govorit Moskva.
The public prosecutor’s office has already been involved because the blue strays could be an indication of a serious environmental problem, he said. “We need to be very specific now about where these poor guys climbed around.” (With dpa material)
