The politician, who returned from a business trip to Sakartvele, says that not seeing the deepening political crisis in Sakartvele would be an unforgivable luxury, and his attempt to bring the parties to the conflict to the negotiating table should not hurt either side.
“I think the result was a few days ago that the opposition headquarters was not stormed, and we managed to agree with the leaders of all Sakartwell parties that they were ready for de-escalation, because I personally do not remember such tensions in 10-15 years between government and non-government parties,” BNS said Ž. Pavilion.
“If we do not intervene and try to establish a dialogue when we see such tensions in this country, it may not end as we would like if we want the country to join the European Union and NATO. Unfortunately, we could not reach an agreement with one side, although we negotiated until midnight, with the involvement of the EU and the US. We hope that the ruling party will return to the negotiating table and negotiations will be resumed with the opposition, and not by arrests, by raids of headquarters, not by planting opposition forces, we will conduct the dialogue, but by speaking, “Ž. Pavilion.
Sakartvelas’ appointed Prime Minister Iraklis Garibashvili called the head of the Seimas URK Ž. Pavilionis’ statements were made at a press conference with opposition forces on Sunday.
The news portal civil.ge quotes Garibashvili that Sakartwell is “a hospitable country, but the offensive rhetoric of our guests is absolutely unacceptable”. According to the portal, at a press conference Ž. The pavilion said the arrest of opposition leader Nikanor Melia would receive an international response and possible sanctions.
Ž. The pavilion says it raises and will raise the issue of the political crisis in Sakartvele internationally, as Sakartvele is currently “not the subject of much debate in Brussels and Washington, but we need to make it happen.”
He also said that as a Conservative, “as a politician, a member of the EPP (European People’s Party) family, as a member of the Homeland Union, I cannot allow my family members to be arrested or stormed at their headquarters.”
“Not seeing a maturing crisis in Sakartvel, which can end in many ways, at the same time not seeing Sakartwell’s chances of perhaps even becoming a member of NATO, and some third force doing everything to break Sakartvel, and not trying to stick those parts together is an unforgivable luxury.” – said the head of the committee.
“I do not understand why the honorable Prime Minister should be offended by the words of dialogue, that there should be no political opponents imprisoned, that there should be no political influence on the rule of law, these are acceptable EU and NATO political family rules. “If the potatoes want to go to Europe, I really think that such words should not hurt me, and I hope that we will agree with the authorities on that,” the Conservative said.
He noted that after receiving the permission of the Board of the Seimas for the visit to Sakartvelas, he was asked whether he had coordinated his position with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and said that he had consulted “with everyone” about his visit. “I discussed this visit with everyone, I received permission from the Seimas Board and I think that in a sense, a small Lithuania defended democracy in Sakartvele for a couple of days because the opposition leader was not planted, the opposition headquarters was not stormed,” Ž. Pavilion.
Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis is currently in Brussels, where the EU Foreign Affairs Council was held, and his comment to the BNS could not be obtained.
Sakartvele has recently deepened the political crisis that followed the parliamentary elections last year.
Hundreds of protesters joined parliament on Friday last week in opposition to calls for new elections after ruling plans to arrest opposition leader Melia resigned as Prime Minister Georgy Gachary.
The attempt to arrest Melia, the chairman of the United National Movement founded by former President Mikheil Saakashvili, provoked outrage from the opposition.
Alerts to Tbilisi were also issued by some of Sakartwell’s allies in the West.
The opposition considers the October 31 parliamentary elections, which were won by a small margin by the ruling Sakartwell Dream, to be rigged.
Leaders of all opposition parties, gathered at VNJ headquarters since Wednesday, promise not to allow police to arrest Melia.
In his resignation, Mr Gacharia said a police raid at VNJ headquarters “would endanger the health and lives of our citizens”.
The European Union and the United States have expressed concern about this move and called on the government to resolve the crisis peacefully and to ensure that the country’s judicial system is politically impartial.
