“Let us turn to the source of mercy. Let us have the courage to return to Jesus ”. These are the words of Pope Francis when he recalls the 90th anniversary of the first revelation of the image of the Merciful Jesus to Saint Faustina Kowalska. Pope Francis wrote a letter to the Bishop of Płock, Poland on the occasion of the celebrations of the 90th anniversary of the first revelation of the image of the Merciful Jesus to Sister Faustina Kowalska on February 22, 1931. So today a solemn celebration will be held at the Shrine of Divine Mercy in the city of Płock, place of the apparition.
In his letter, Francis recalls the words that Saint Sister Faustina heard at the time:
Sharing the joy of the Church of Płock for his birthday, the Pope recalls other words of Jesus written in the Holy Diary: “Humanity will not find peace until it turns to the source of my mercy” (Acts 699). And Francis encourages:
The Pope also recalls the apostle of mercy, St. John Paul II, who said “It is necessary to transmit this fire of mercy to the world. In God’s mercy the world will find peace and man will find happiness! (Kraków – Łagiewniki, 17 August 2002).
In conclusion, the Holy Father writes: “This is a special challenge for the Church in Płock, marked by this revelation, for the Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame of Mercy, for the city of Płock and for all her people. To transmit to the world the fire of Jesus Love. May everyone be a sign of His presence among you ”. “To you, Bishop, to the Diocese of Płock and to all the participants in the celebrations of the 90th anniversary of the manifestations of the Merciful Jesus, I cordially impart my Apostolic Blessing”.
