During his last meeting with Kim Jong-un in Vietnam in 2019, US President Donald Trump suggested that the DPRK leader use the presidential plane to fly to Pyongyang.
It is reported by the BBC.
Former deputy national security adviser to former US President Donald Trump, Matthew Pottinger, said that the then head of the White House had proposed to Kim Jong-un «throw it to Pyongyang from Vietnam.
Trump made such an offer to prevent Kim Jong-un from traveling home by train through China. According to Pottinger, the DPRK leader rejected the offer.
The first ever summit with the participation of the leaders of the United States and North Korea was held on June 12, 2018 in Singapore. Then Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un signed a declaration, according to which the DPRK assumed obligations for denuclearization in exchange for security guarantees from the United States.
The second meeting of the heads of the United States and the DPRK was held in February 2019 in Vietnam. As part of the negotiations, it was planned to develop steps to achieve the set goals, but the meeting ended without signing any documents.
In June of the same year, Trump and Kim Jong-un held a third meeting in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea, agreeing to resume negotiations at the working level, but the next meeting of the working groups in Stockholm was unsuccessful.
At the same time, the DPRK stated that they do not see the need to negotiate with the United States.
