A special horror among the spectators, but also a certain question about whether all the atrocities by (in) human hands, which are shown in the film, are really possible, was caused by numerous scenes showing the most terrible types of torture of camp inmates, which almost always end in death.
Among other things, the film shows the hated “Serb cutter” as one of the many ways of torturing camp inmates – a type of knife used to slaughter camp inmates in Croatian concentration camps during World War II.
In addition to the Serb cutters, in some scenes another “famous” Ustasha tool for killing camp inmates was shown – a mallet.
Killing in the head with a mallet was one of the most common types of massacre of detainees in Ustasha camps, as pointed out by Dr. Gideon Greif, chief researcher at the Shem Olam Institute for the Holocaust in Israel, who conducted the “Jasenovac, Auschwitz Balkans” study.
In a special issue of Politika, from 1991, entitled “Crime Dossier”, an authentic photograph of an Ustasha hammer used to beat prisoners was published.
– The convicts had to dig long and deep pits themselves, the Ustashas stripped them naked, knocked out their golden teeth or teeth, and then the victim had to jump into the crab, where he was met by an Ustasha or a gypsy, and hit her on the head with a hammer. or cut her throat with a knife – is one of the many gruesome testimonies of former detainees.
