ROME – If the mass vaccination against covid in Europe does not end as planned, due to the lack of vaccines, Italy will be in big trouble, claims Professor Massimo Gali, the primarius of the Milan hospital.
According to him, the EU should consider a reserve variant of the battle with the kovida-19 pandemic, if the companies that produce vaccines do not deliver the agreed amount.
“We need to think about an exit strategy that will guarantee us an alternative if mass immunization is not carried out on time,” says Professor Gali.
On suggestions that Italy try to produce its own anti-covid vaccine, Professor Gali said that the production of the drug is not a job that is completed in a day or two.
According to him, his own vaccine could be Plan B, but it should have been thought about earlier, reports Tanjug.
Only mass vaccination is the right way, Dr. Gali told television.
In Italy, the Vaiser, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines are in use, the procurement of which was agreed within the framework of a joint EU plan. Due to the reduced delivery of doses of all these vaccines, the state plan for immunization of the population is delayed. Authorities, for now, do not allow vaccines from other manufacturers to be procured on the free market.
