YANGON, KOMPAS.com – The Myanmar military on Sunday (21/2/2021) warned anti-coup protesters that they could die if they joined a national strike.
The stern warning was announced after large demonstrations last weekend, which saw police shooting at demonstrators in Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city.
At least two Myanmar demonstrators were killed in the shooting.

“The protesters are now inciting the people, especially emotional youth and youth, to a path of confrontation where they will lose their lives,” said the State Administration Council, the name of the military junta that now controls Myanmar.

Then Associated Press proclaiming that this statement also considers the protesters to be violent, so that inevitably the security forces must retaliate.
So far three protesters have been shot dead.

Then videos circulating on social media on Sunday night and Monday morning showed barbed wire fences closing the way to several embassies in Yangon.
The largest city in Myanmar has become a focal point for recent demonstrations. The military also deployed armored vehicles there.
Myanmar protesters called for a mass strike by closing all offices and shops on Monday (22/2/2021).
Activists urged all citizens to join the mass strike known as the “Five Twos”, referring to the five-digit 2 on today’s date.
“Tomorrow 22.2.2021 will be a big historic day. Keep watching and pray for us, friends,” tweeted the Civil Disobedience Movement of a leading demonstration activist group on Sunday.
