Boeing is advising airlines to suspend some of their Boeing 777s, Reuters reported. The warning was issued by the manufacturer after the right-hand engine of one of United Airlines’ planes caught fire on Sunday after taking off from Denver International Airport, pieces of which crashed into a nearby town, Broomfield.

Boeing said the 777s should remain on the ground at least until the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) investigates why the Pratt & Whitney 4000-112 engine has failed.

According to the manufacturer, a total of 128 machines are affected, of which 69 are in use and 59 are stored.

United has already announced that it will suspend all of its flights operated with PW4000-powered 777s.

Another type of Boeing, the 737 MAX, has only recently been re-licensed in the United States and the European Union. The planes were ordered to the ground after two fatal air disasters in half a year in 2018 and 2019, in which a total of 346 people lost their lives.
