However, who was the real Vjekoslav Maks Luburic?

There is not much information about his youth. According to Serbian sources, before the war he was known as an ordinary criminal and was punished for various crimes. According to Croatian sources, he worked as a dishwasher in a restaurant and later as a clerk in a health insurance savings bank.

Vjekoslav Luburić received the nickname Maks from his longtime friend Jure Francetić during his stay in the Ustasha camp of Janko Pust.

He designed the system of concentration camps Jasenovac himself and was its first commander. For Luburić, who was sung among the Ustashas as “the commander of his butchers”, even Ante Pavelić’s daughter, Višnja, said shortly before his death in 2015 that he was “a crazy, mentally ill man, that he could not control himself at all”.

Between 1,152 and 1,631 children died in horrific conditions in the children’s camp in Sisak. He did not hesitate to shoot his own. At the end of 1942, due to the savagery, Pavelić himself barely protected him from the Nazi general von Horstenau, who did everything he could to put him behind bars. Tens of thousands of executed, slaughtered, dismembered civilians of all ages, religions, nationalities, genders, literally rivers of blood remained behind Luburić.

Vjekoslav “Max” Luburić was killed by Udba agent Ilija Stanić, otherwise the son of an Ustasha. After the war, Luburic fled to Spain, where he enjoyed the protection of fascist General Franco, and Ilija Stanic was the only person in whom Luburic had confidence.

One evening, Stanić drugged Luburić with sleeping powder in his villa in Spain on April 20, 1969, and then smashed his head with a mallet and killed him with a shout:

“Your mother is an Ustasha! This is how you killed children in Jasenovac!”

German observers described him as a “great sadist” and a “nervous patient”.

At the beginning of 1992, General Mirko Norac (who is still glorified by Croats today) expressed his admiration for Luburic. Croatian historian Vlado Vladić held a promotion of his book “Croatian Knight Vjekoslav Maks Luburić” on September 29, 2018 at the Roman Catholic Priory in Split.

“Dara iz Jasenovac” is a film that stirred up the whole region. He showed and showed all the horrors of the concentration camps in Jasenovac during the Second World War.

“Jasenovac Labor Camp” was a death camp for Serbs, Roma and Jews, of all ages, genders, ages, social, educational and other profiles, as well as for communists, helpers and sympathizers of Serbs, Roma and Jews. Terrible and brutal crimes were committed against prisoners in this camp.
