Jessica Watkins is one of nine members of a group accused of plotting against the government and preventing Congress from confirming Joe Biden’s victory.
The prosecution claims that Watkins illegally stormed the Capitol, while the defense says that she did not participate in the violence. Watkins, a participant in the war in Afghanistan, stated that she was not guilty of plotting.
The indictment alleges that she brought communication devices, camouflage helmets, swimming goggles, body armor to the Capitol, and that she was with other members of the group. Guardians of the oath violently invaded Congress.
Her defense, however, claims she did not take part in the violence, but was at the Capitol to “provide speakers at the protest, to safely escort protesters from the Congress building to the car. She had a VIP protest pass and met with Secret Service members.” “.
A representative of the Secret Service stated that they cooperated with partners from the government on the issue of security on January 6, and that it was “a false claim that they hired any citizen for that”.
The prosecution claims to be members of the group Guardians of the oath conspired as early as November 2020 to invade Congress and planned a military-like attack.
More than 200 people have been accused of taking part in the riots in which five people were killed.
Jessica Watkins has been in custody since mid-January and is asking the court to defend herself from freedom until the start of the trial, with the explanation that she was “badly treated as a transgender person”.
