Iran has decided to completely stop the implementation of the additional protocol in the nuclear agreement
The Iranian Atomic Energy Organization clarified that the talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency stressed “the need to respect and implement the law of the Shura Council,” according to the joint statement.
The statement pointed out that the two parties “agreed to completely stop the implementation of the additional protocol and operations to access the nuclear facilities stipulated in the nuclear agreement,” adding that “Iran’s obligations will be implemented only within the framework of the safeguards agreement.”
The Iranian Energy Organization confirmed that it “will not grant the agency any access to the facilities, nor will any inspections be carried out outside the framework of the safeguards agreement, as stipulated in the Shura Council law.”
Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said, “Iran will stop, as of tomorrow, its implementation of the additional protocol.”
He stressed that his country “did not give a new opportunity to America in the understanding between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, and all that we decided came within the framework of the decision of strategic measures to cancel the sanctions.”
Khatibzadeh stated that “the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization will clarify the technical dimensions of the framework of understanding between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency,” indicating that Iran will continue its cooperation with the IAEA “within the NPT.”
The joint statement between Iran and the IAEA affirmed that Tehran “will continue to implement the agreement signed with the IAEA without any restrictions,” noting that “it has been agreed on a regular follow-up of technical understandings between the two parties in order to ensure that its objectives are achieved.”
For his part, Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Raphael Grossi, who visited Tehran last Saturday, said that the results of negotiations with Tehran were “good and reasonable.”
