Former President of the United States of America (USA), Donald Trump, proposed to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to return to Pyongyang by American presidential plane from the summit in Hanoi in 2019.
The BBC documentary “Trump Takes on the World” states that the offer of the former American president, if Kim accepted, would be “a surprise even for the most experienced diplomats”.
Kim arrived in Hanoi after a multi-day train trip through China, and Trump then said: “I can bring you home in two hours if you want.”
Had the North Korean leader accepted the offer, his presence, and probably the actions of his entourage, on the plane of the American president, but in the airspace of North Korea, would have raised many security issues.
Trump and Kim met twice, and for the first time at the historic summit in June 2018 in Singapore.
However, negotiations on the denuclearization of North Korea have not progressed and are even stalled since the next failed summit in February 2019 in Hanoi.
North Korean state media did not comment on the inauguration of the new US President Joseph Biden.
