Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced on February 21, 2021, a cabinet reshuffle in which the strategic Ministry of Energy changed heads.
Arrived at the government in June 2020, Abdelmadjid Attar indeed returns his portfolio to his predecessor Mohamed Arkab (57 years), who thus becomes the Minister of Mines and Energy of Algeria. The one who had already been Minister of Energy from April 2019 until his replacement by Attar therefore regains control of an energy industry which suffers from a lack of investment, the volumes of oil and gas exports. having fallen by around 30% in 2020.
In addition, Ferhat Ait Ali is replaced at the Ministry of Industry by Mohamed Bacha, the head of the central structure in charge of economic intelligence, forecasting and statistics, SMEs and investment promotion. Five other departments also have new ministers, including the Ministry of Crafts and Family Work, that of Digitization and Statistics, and that of the Environment. It should be noted that no other sovereign ministry has been affected by this reshuffle which brings the team from 39 to 36 ministers, deputy ministers and secretaries of state.
The Algerian president also signed on February 21, 2021, a presidential decree dissolving the National Assembly. He who is trying to regain control after a stay of several weeks in Germany following contamination with the coronavirus, and in a socio-political climate still tense.
