Astronomers succeeded in designing a more detailed map of the black holes in the universe, where This map contributes to unraveling the mysterious entities, which are ruptures resulting from exploding stars or colliding neutron stars.
According to the “Science Alert” scientific site, this image does not look like it is familiar, as it is about active, giant black holes.
According to scientific sites, black holes are regions of space where the force of gravity is so strong that even light cannot escape from them.
The white dots image represents a years-long effort on the part of astronomers who have struggled to map more in detail the black holes in the universe via low-radio scanning.
There are about 25,000 black holes on the map, and this is a fraction of what is actually in the entire universe, as data were collected from only 4 percent of the sky in the northern hemisphere.
Scientists created the map by using 52 low-frequency telescopes that were able to detect radio emissions emitted from matter near a supermassive black hole.
And that map was created by combining data from 256 hours of observations from the northern sky. What made the research more difficult is that long radio observations are blocked by the Earth’s ionosphere and is devoid of electrons, which acts like a dark lens.
“The image was the product of many years of working with data,” says astronomer Francesco de Gasperin of the University of Hamburg, Germany, describing it as extremely difficult.
“We had to devise new ways to convert radio signals into images of the sky,” he added.
When black holes diminish, they emit no detectable radiation, which makes finding them difficult.
But when a black hole creates active material that is enveloped by a disk of gas and dust, it creates force across multiple wavelengths that can be detected in space.
This means that the image above is covering waves from active black holes.
