This historic decision is based on the position of the United Nations which does not recognize the republic declared by the Polisario and the recent resolutions of its Security Council on the issue. A source from the Mauritanian electronic newspaper further recalled that all the governments which succeeded the government of former President Mohamed Khouna Ould Haidala, loyal to the Polisario Front and which recognized it in February 1984, have never agreed. with the unpopular decision of recognition that they inherited and had to manage.
