Questions about the timing of the emergence of Raghad Saddam Hussein and its goal
In a lengthy interview with the daughter of the late Iraqi president, Raghad Saddam Hussein, which came in six parts with Al-Arabiya TV, Raghad spoke about several issues related to her life in Iraq and her journey after leaving Baghdad. However, excerpts from the words of the daughter of the late president about her vision of the current situation of her country, and what she called “the desecration of Iraqi lands,” sparked a debate about the implications and timing of the conversation.
Raghad said in her vision of the current situation in Iraq that “the Iranians have violated Iraq after the absence of real authority and the legitimate authority of the country. They have desecrated the country, and the country has become for them an easy destination, they land wherever they want, and in the way they want, there is no real response.”
Raghad believes that Iranian interference goes beyond Iraq, saying: “Iranian interference has become blatant in the whole region, not only in Iraq. If we review, we meet many Arab countries, the Iranian interference in them has become very strong, and other interventions also, not only the Iranians.”
Raghad added, “With my belief and conviction, when (when) deterrence becomes real and the big decision-makers, whoever they are, they insist on ending the intervention, they will be able to end it.”
Regarding the period of the invasion of Kuwait, Raghad said: “Yes, it was not an easy stage. We occupied Kuwait. I cannot appreciate the most beautiful word and use another word.”
In response to a question whether she believes that her father made a mistake in invading Kuwait, Raghad replied: “They made a mistake and we made a mistake. The two sides sinned against each other.
Regarding what was rumored about her father’s cruelty, Raghad said: “My father did not love wars, sometimes I hear this thing. What is true is this talk.
Various Readings of Raghad Saddam Hussein’s Hadith
Some saw that Raghad’s hadith does not deviate from being a media talk for a daughter talking about her father, and that it should not be loaded more than it is possible. However, some others expressed their fear that Raghad’s speech was an introduction to the return of a political current representing the ideas of the late Iraqi president.
In this context, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, warned in a statement on Twitter, February 19, 2021, of what he called attempts to return to the Baath Party in a new dress, saying: “When I follow the news via television, communication sites, or private monitoring. I see voices of the confrontational resurrection being louder, for I feel anger on the one hand and sadness over what happened to our beloved Iraq on the other.
Al-Sadr addressed the Iraqi officials, saying: “As a first step, the honorable people in Parliament and the government must activate the role of (the De-Baathification Commission) … Otherwise, we are obligated to do what our conscience and our love for the homeland dictates so that these voices will end … There is no place for resurrection in our beloved Iraq, even if it is a dress. Else, we are looking for them. “
The leader of the Sadrist movement reminded the Iraqis of the period of Saddam Hussein’s rule: “We still remember the Saddam massacres, the mass graves, cutting off the ears and hands, the killing of scholars, and so on about you in secret.”
Although a sector of Iraqis believes that the economic conditions were better during the rule of the late Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, but the late president’s period also witnessed a war that lasted for about eight years with Iran, then came the invasion of Kuwait and the subsequent sanctions imposed on Iraq, ending with the US invasion of the country. .
The division among Iraqis remains over their outlook for the period of Saddam Hussein’s rule, as one side of the Iraqis holds him responsible for the current conditions in Iraq as a result of his decisions that brought Iraq into two wars with two neighboring countries. On the other hand, another side of Iraqis believes that Saddam Hussein, despite his mistakes, preserved the unity and sovereignty of Iraq.
“The timing of the emergence of Raghad”
Raghad’s meeting with Al-Arabiya, the Saudi-funded channel, comes at a time when the administration of US President Joe Biden is preparing to sit at the same table with the Iranians to discuss the possibility of returning to the Iranian nuclear deal.
The Biden administration is taking a more diplomatic approach towards Iran than the administration of former US President Donald Trump, who withdrew from the nuclear deal with Iran and imposed many sanctions on Tehran.
In his tweet on Twitter, Dr. Muhammad Salih Sidqian, a researcher on Iranian affairs, commenting on Raghad Saddam Hussein’s speech: “I do not go into details because it is not important and I do not think that the origin of the interview is also important, but what is important is Saudi Arabia’s goal of making such a meeting What is the message that Saudi Arabia wants to deliver to Iraq?
Arab capitals, including Riyadh, accuse Iran of destabilizing the region, and the Biden administration is calling for pressure on Iran to limit its influence in the region and its support for groups loyal to it, such as Hezbollah and the Houthis.
On the other hand, another side of analysts believes that the interview is purely informational, in which Raghad spoke about her experience as the daughter of a late president, and politics should not be included in a media conversation, especially since Raghad was not known about her practicing politics during her father’s rule or after her departure from Iraq.
