A more than surprising scene occurred this Sunday morning in San Francisco. An entire house was moved from street to street, transported on a huge truck, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
The large 139-year-old Victorian mansion has been relocated six blocks from its former location. The land on which it stood was sold to a real estate developer but it was out of the question to destroy the mint green house, with its typical American city architecture.
Its not everyday you see a 140-year-old two-story Victorian moving down the street in San Francisco. The house is being moved from 807 Franklin Street to 635 Fulton Street. @sfchronicle pic.twitter.com/3612GOJmc8

A move to $ 400,000
The operation began early in the morning. The house was loaded onto a truck under the watchful eye of engineers and workers. The heavyweight then drove off, never driving above 1.6 km / h. On the way, many signs had been moved and workers had to cut tree branches to avoid damaging the house, said the HuffPost.

This impressive move, which cost the modest sum of $ 400,000, had been planned for years. “We had to get permission from 15 different agencies in the city, or maybe 18, I don’t remember,” the man in charge of the project told San Francisco Chronicle.

On the former land of the house, the developer will now build an eight-storey building containing 48 apartments. The Victorian house, for its part, has reached its new address without a hitch. The building will need major work before it can be inhabited again.
