In Russia, they wanted to toughen the responsibility for insulting veterans, the corresponding amendments were developed by a group of deputies of the State Duma. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the United Russia party.
Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Irina Yarovaya, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense Vladimir Shamanov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications Alexander Khinshtein and Deputy Chairman of the Committee Sergey Boyarsky have prepared amendments, which propose to recognize the spread of deliberately false information about veterans of one of the forms of rehabilitation of Nazism, to consolidate criminal liability for humiliation of honor and dignity of veterans, as well as for insulting the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland.
Explaining the need for the proposed measures, Yarovaya noted that at the moment the legislation provides for responsibility for the dissemination of information that demonstrates disrespect for the days of military glory and memorable dates associated with the defense of the Fatherland, however, humiliation of the honor and dignity of veterans of the Great Patriotic War remains unpunished.
The amendments proposed by parliamentarians are being introduced for the second reading to the draft law on the protection of historical memory, which was unanimously adopted in the first reading on February 10. According to the idea of the deputies, changes will be made to the criminal and administrative legislation for legal entities.
