The 25-year-old CC reported to the Latour police station on Tuesday, February 16, after he had assaulted an employee of a telecom company and destroyed the window of a service vehicle out of dissatisfaction with his internet connection. The suspect was arrested and, after consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, placed in temporary custody, the Suriname Police Force reported on Sunday evening, 21 February.
On Tuesday, the Command Center passed on a message to the Latour police that serious assault and destruction had occurred on Latourweg.
The police came to the location for an investigation, which showed that employees of a telecom company were busy with work along the public road. They stated that an impatient young man, who presumably minded not having the Internet, came to them and asked how long it would be before he could access the Internet again. The employees asked him to be patient, as the work would still take some time.
This response was not well received by CC and when he noticed that the internet problem had not yet been solved, he armed himself with a beam, with which he assaulted the foreman and then smashed the side window of the service vehicle.
The seriously injured employee was personally transferred to the Emergency Room of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo for medical assistance.
The suspect was brought before an Assistant Public Prosecutor and placed in temporary custody after consultation with the Public Prosecution Service.
