BEIJING, KOMPAS.com – China is calling for a rapprochement with the United States (US) that was damaged under the administration of former US President Donald Trump.
This was expressed by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi as quoted from Reuters, Monday (22/2/2021).
Wang Yi called on US President Joe Biden to reopen the dialogue between the two countries to restore bilateral relations.

He added that the Trump administration’s actions to suppress and detain China have caused massive losses.
Wang also asked Washington to remove tariffs on goods from China.
He also urged Washington to respect Beijing’s interests and to stop interfering in Beijing’s internal affairs.

Not only did he get there, he also asked the US to stop “conspiring” with separatist forces aimed at “liberating” Taiwan.
“Over the past few years, the US broke off bilateral dialogue at all levels,” Wang said in his remarks translated into English.
“We are prepared to have honest communication with the US side and engage in dialogue aimed at solving problems,” added Wang.

Wang said the recent telephone calls between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Biden were a positive step.
The comments come after bilateral relations between the US and China are at their lowest point in decades.
In recent years, Washington and Beijing have clashed on multiple fronts including trade.

The dispute includes allegations of human rights crimes against the ethnic Uighur minority in Xinjiang and Beijing’s territorial claims in the resource-rich South China Sea.
Nonetheless, the Biden government has signaled it will maintain pressure on Beijing.
Biden has raised concerns about Beijing’s “unfair” trade practices.
He also supported the Trump administration’s assertion that China had committed genocide against ethnic minorities in Xinjiang.
