Belarus reserves the right to take new steps to protect national security if the West continues to escalate tensions. This was stated by the Belarusian Defense Ministry.
Major General Oleg Voinov, Assistant Minister of Defense for International Military Cooperation, addressed the military attaches accredited with the ministry.
“It has been reported that if the Western countries continue the policy of escalating tension, the Republic of Belarus reserves the right to take a number of additional steps in the field of national security in 2021,” the ministry said in a statement.
They recalled that, as part of the CSTO operational-strategic exercise “Combat Brotherhood – 2021”, exercises are planned in Russia (“Indestructible Brotherhood – 2021”) and exercises in Tajikistan (“Interaction-2021”, “Search-2021”, “Echelon- 2021 “).
In November 2020, the head of the Belarusian Defense Ministry Viktor Khrenin said that the situation near the western borders of Belarus is difficult, but does not pose a threat to the security of the state.
On January 25, a sudden check of combat and mobilization readiness began in the Armed Forces of Belarus.
