Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President of the United States (US) Joe Biden declared a state of emergency in the state of Texas, which is known to be rich in oil in the country. This happened after a blizzard hit since last week.
Reporting from the official website of the White House (White House), the 46th president said he would continue to monitor the situation and cooperate with the Texas government. Previously, the storm had cut power for days in several cities in Texas.
“President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. declared a major catastrophe in the state of Texas and ordered federal assistance to complement state and local recovery efforts in areas affected by the severe winter storm that began on February 11, 2021, and continues,” wrote the White House quoted Monday (22/2/2021).

In addition, Biden also ensured that assistance would be provided. This includes a grant for the repair of damaged homes in 77 county the worst affected.
“Assistance can be in the form of grants for temporary housing and house repairs, low cost loans to cover the loss of uninsured property, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the impact of a disaster,” the statement said.
“Federal funding is also available to eligible state and local governments and certain private nonprofits on a cost-sharing basis for emergency protection measures and hazard mitigation measures across the state.”
The state of Texas is one of the states worst affected by snowstorms that hit almost all of North America. In this state, 58 people were killed.
In addition, the storm has paralyzed the flow of electricity and clean water. In the largest city of Houston for example, AFP writes that hundreds of thousands of residents of the metropolis are now suffering from cold due to blackouts and water shortages.
