A little more than 120 years of the history of this temple are coming to an end, and this year we are celebrating 350 years since the presentation of Saint Vasilije Ostroški, so this is a year of great jubilee, great events and changes, God willing, in the city of Nikšić, change for the better. Budimljan-Niksic and administrator of the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral (MCP) Joanikije.
As it was announced at the meeting of the Diocese of Budva-Niksic, today Joanikije received the Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic and the President of the Parliament of Montenegro Aleksa Becic during their visit to the Diocese of Budva-Niksic.
“We just want these changes, we know they can be different, but we always want and try to make everything we do better. We hope that this year we will pay attention to this holy temple, which has such sublimity and beauty, but, already, it is a little dilapidated.Unfortunately, so far, having almost no contact with the previous authorities, experiencing obstruction in all our efforts to make contact and do something good, we have come to a situation, not wanting to oppose the state, that “This temple is rather neglected, that is, it needs our special attention. This whole complex requires a great renewal and it is a symbol of what our people need, and we need spiritual and material renewal, we need renewal of trust, renewal of dialogue, renewal in every respect.” , pointed out Joanikije during the meeting with Krivokapić and Bečić in the church of St. Vasilije Ostroški in Nikšić.
According to the website of the Diocese of Budva-Niksic, he “expressed hope that today’s visit to Niksic, this church and the Episcopate will be a good sign for the revival of Niksic, for the success of the Montenegrin government in everything it does and plans well.”
Krivokapić expressed special satisfaction that, as he said, he was in the temple of his childhood and youth, which he was visiting at the time.
This temple was created as a need of King Nikola to express to his people what is most important, for this magnificent temple to spring up near his castle. If he, as a ruler, had such a relationship, how could other rulers after him have different ones. This temple, as far as I remember, had a short restoration when Saint Patriarch Pavle came and walked through Nikšić and, in a way, additionally consecrated this temple with his footsteps. This is an opportunity for us, as the Government, to reconsider all possibilities and, together with the Diocese of Budva-Niksic, find the best way to preserve and decorate this Temple. This is one of the few temples that has not been frescoed lately. Niksic deserves it, and this Temple in particular, so that the bishop rightly reminds us today what kind of obligations we should have. I hope that in the period of this Government, many things regarding conservation and fresco painting will be completed, “Krivokapic said.
Becic said that he was especially happy to be in the church of St. Vasilije Ostroski.
“It is a special joy whenever I am in this holy place, in the temple of Saint Vasilije Ostroški, because he is one of the saints who made us which paths we should take, and those paths are the ones we promote today. That.” are the paths of fraternal harmony, love, peace and communion among people. He taught us and today gathers people, does not look at skin color, nor religion, nor nation. It is our sacred duty, our common sacred mission and thank you for you are helping in that, “Becic said.
He assessed that some positive winds are blowing, and that the February sun in Nikšić is sending an optimistic message to meet everything that Nikšić and Montenegro is waiting for in the coming days, months, years.
“This fight for justice, the fight for the truth, the fight for every man in Montenegro is something that lasts and will last. We are here to fight together, and always, and in every place, I emphasize a particularly civilized, noble contribution, which is clergy and monks, here in Niksic, in the past, difficult, uncertain, turbulent year when you were forced to fight for your rights, these issues have been resolved, these issues are behind us, these issues have also been resolved by the Parliament of Montenegro. in a civilized way, respecting what is right, what is the will of the citizens, and it seems to me that we have now created the foundations to have a healthy and constitutionally defined relationship between the state, churches and religious communities. “It is better for a man in Montenegro to have as much love, unity, brotherly harmony as possible, then we can never have disagreements and obstacles,” Becic said.
