The Nord Stream-2 operator has asked to be allowed to work in German waters immediately. The Federal Office of Shipping and Hydrography is due to consider this request shortly.
The German regulator confirmed that it had received the request. However, it is unknown when it will be decided.
Important The US State Department has not proposed new sanctions on Nord Stream-2
Why the operator made a request
The application is the operator’s response to a complaint about the continuation of construction in German waters. It was submitted by the environmental organizations Deutsche Umwelthilfe and the Nature Conservation Union.
Environmentalists called for a halt to construction because the regulator did not take into account the consequences for the climate and the environment. Part of the pipeline runs along the edge of the bird sanctuary.
What about the conclusions of environmentalists said in Germany
They assured that the conclusions of environmentalists are allegedly not significant, because in that area and so there is active shipping. The regulator claimed that the operation of the pipeline would not affect the birds.
