Reni King, a 26-year-old mother from Amarillo, Texas (USA), posted a clip of an aquarium in her daughter’s room freezing due to the record low temperature these days. “This is life in Texas”, she annotated below.
After being shared on Reni’s TikTok, the clip immediately attracted more than 34.7 million views. “Look at my daughter’s aquarium”, she said. “Oh my gosh … Yes, the fish is dead.”
President Joe Biden has declared a state of emergency in the state of Texas, where millions of people have lost their electricity and lack of drinking water due to thick snow cover. Share with BuzzFeed, Reni said her house is not fully equipped to withstand inclement weather. Not only lost power a few times, the whole family also suffered from frozen tap water.

Before that situation, Reni’s family had to move to a hotel to stay for a few days to be eligible to take care of a newborn son. The rest of the pets they keep are fine because some rooms in the house have heating, but the girls’ rooms are not.

A few days ago, while going home to get clean clothes, Reni discovered that the aquarium had been frozen ever since. At the suggestion of those who watched the clip, she decided to put a heater in the tank to thaw to see if there were any live fish.

After checking, she found a fish in a decorative boat on the bottom of the tank, but found it dead. Many people still believe that the fish is still alive, just died from the cold shock and begged Reni to keep it. However, they are disappointed when the young mother proves that it is indeed dead.
