Afghanistan-Explosion: A heartbreaking video shows children crying next to their mother

A heartbreaking video showing two children crying near their unconscious mother after an explosion in Kabul on Sunday has been shared on social media, sparking outrage in Afghanistan after 40 years of war.

“Mom get up … Mom”, the two little girls are heard, one is in the blood, shouting next to their mother who is lying on the sidewalk, injured by the explosion, in a video recorded by a local journalist.

“At around 4.22pm, terrorists detonated a mine in Kabul. The driver of the police vehicle, which was the target, and a street child were killed, five other people, including a woman and two children, were injured.” said Ferdows Faramarz, a spokesman for the capital’s police.

“The children are being treated in the hospital with minor injuries. Unfortunately, the mother was seriously injured,” he said, referring to the video.

The video was recorded immediately after the explosion, and went viral within hours. It shows, through the smoke and the dust, lifeless bodies on the asphalt, and these two little ones next to their unconscious mother.

Mom, can you hear me? “, Cries a little one crying as the mother is transported in a car.

There is no claim of responsibility for the attack, but Afghan forces are the first targets of the Taliban, who attack them daily.

A rebel spokesman, however, said the blast “had nothing to do” with the Taliban.

“Unbearable”

The video immediately made Afghan internet users outraged, horrified, using the hashtag “Mom, get up”, written in Dari.

“It is unbearable to see this mother and her children like this,” Ejaz Malilkzanda reacted on Twitter.

“How can those who do this look at themselves in the mirror when they see children crying in front of their injured mother? This must STOP,” said Fauzia Koufi, a member of the Kabul peace negotiating delegation. the Taliban.

Violence in Afghanistan has escalated in recent months, despite negotiations that began in September in Qatar, which have so far made no significant progress.

In the capital, explosions are almost daily and in rural areas fighting is raging.

Targeted killings of journalists, human rights defenders, judges and politicians have also become more frequent.

Washington and Kabul have blamed the Taliban for denying any involvement.

Sunday’s incident came as President Joe Biden’s new government is set to announce in the coming days its decision to withdraw its troops from the country scheduled for May, in line with a landmark agreement reached in February. 2020 in Doha from the United States and the Taliban.
