The specialized prosecutor’s office handed over to a court for terrorism the citizens of Burgas with Bulgarian-Syrian citizenship Mohamed Abdulkader, who took part in the fighting of jihadist groups in Syria, the press center of the prosecutor’s office announced.
Abdulkader was brought to court for the fact that during the period from August 28, 2017 to September 26, 2019, as a Bulgarian citizen, under the conditions of a continuing crime, he left the country five times through the Malko Tarnovo border checkpoint to Syria via Turkey.
According to the indictment, he committed murders there and created fear in the population.
He was detained on July 1, 2020 in Burgas during a joint operation of SANS and GDCOP under the direction and supervision of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office.
During searches of the addresses inhabited by him, a large amount of material evidence was seized, including nine mobile phones.
During their investigation, photos and videos were found, in which Mohamed Abdulkader was photographed in a combat situation with a uniform and various types of weapons in his hands.
The evidence gathered during the investigation showed that he was attracted to the ideas of jihadism by his Syrian father, who led a fighting group in the Islamist group Fikrat al-Sultan Murad, and in mid-2019 became a commander in Jabhat al – Shamiya “(or Front Sham) – a group directly involved in combat operations related to kidnappings and human trafficking.
On each trip to Syria, the accused passed through the Turkish city of Gaziantep, located 50 km from the Turkish-Syrian border.
There lived his father, who worked at the border with Syria as a person in charge of the crossing regime. He often resided in Syria for certain periods.
“As can be seen from the evidence attached to the indictment, in the territory of the Arab state, MA participated most often in the fighting of the Jabhat al-Shamiya group operating in the Aleppo region.
It includes many foreign fighters. The group professes Salafi ideology and aims to create a caliphate by force.
The photos and videos in which Mohamed Abdulkader sealed his every participation in hostilities, he later uploaded on social networks. At the moment, the accused is on remand in custody.
The Specialized Criminal Court is about to schedule a preliminary hearing on the case.
