Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday called on US President Joe Biden to work with Beijing to reopen dialogue between the two countries and restore a damaged bilateral relationship under the administration of the former White House tenant , Donald Trump.
The Trump administration’s measures to suppress and contain China have caused immeasurable damage, he said, calling on Washington to remove tariffs on Chinese products and what he described as irrational measures against the Chinese tech industry.
Wang Yi also urged the United States to respect China’s fundamental interests, to stop interfering in Chinese internal affairs and to stop its
connivance with the separatist forces in favor of Taiwan independence.
In recent years, the United States has more or less broken off bilateral dialogue at all levels, said the Chinese diplomat at a forum in Beijing, according to remarks prepared in advance and translated into English.
We stand ready for sincere communication with the American camp, and to enter into dialogues aimed at solving the problems, he added.
Wang Yi called the recent telephone conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Joe Biden a positive step.
The administration of Joe Biden, who took office on January 20, has however indicated that it intends to keep the pressure on China, and the US president has expressed concern about the practices
unfair from Beijing.
