US to take decisive action against Myanmar military forces who staged coup – Blinken


The United States will continue to take strong action against perpetrators of violence against the people of Myanmar who are seeking to restore a democratically elected government, said US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

The United States promised to take decisive action against those who dispersed the protests in Myanmar, wrote On his Twitter page, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken February 22.

“The United States will continue to take decisive action against those who commit violence against the people of Burma, who demand the restoration of a democratically elected government,” said the secretary of state.



Blinken also said that the United States supports the people of Myanmar.

Military in Myanmar on February 1 ousted the government of Aung San Suu Kyi; and detained other leaders of the ruling National League for Democracy Party and members of the government. UN Secretary General António Guterres expressed concern about what happened in Myanmar… He described the coup as a serious blow to democratic reforms in the country. Washington announced revision of the sanctions regime against Myanmar due to a military coup.

After the coup, protests began in the country. In connection with them, the authorities restricted the work of Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and some WhatsApp servers. On February 4, the Myanmar authorities instructed enter Facebook blocking and its services to “maintain stability” in the country.

On February 14, the Internet was almost completely disconnected in Myanmar.

On February 20, hundreds of people rallied to support workers in the Inland Waterway Department who faced pressure from the authorities. During the protest, two people were killed and 20 were injured.

The social networking site Facebook removed the Myanmar Armed Forces page the day after the killing of protesters against the coup.
