“Fruitful talks” between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency

Grossi, who arrived in Tehran on Saturday night, met with the head of the Iranian nuclear energy organization Ali Akbar Salehi, and also met with the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamed Javad Zarif.

“Iran and the IAEA have had fruitful talks based on mutual respect. Their outcome will be announced tonight,” Garibabadi, who took part in the talks in Tehran, tweeted.

The IAEA director visited Tehran at a time when Iran, European countries and the new US administration were stepping up efforts to resolve Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal, which began to fall apart when the US under the presidency Donaldom trumpom resigned from it in May 2018 and began stepping up sanctions against Iran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has indicated he wants Iran to avoid it “dead end”, but at the same time warned that Tehran would drop even more commitments from the agreement if Washington did not lift sanctions.

Iran informed the nuclear agency last week that it would limit IAEA inspections on Tuesday if the U.S. does not lift sanctions. At the same time, Tehran stressed that they would not stop cooperating with the IAEA or expel its inspectors.
