The girl was slightly injured after meeting the bear
Last year saw a record number of complaints about bears in Alaska. They can approach people because they did not have time to gain fat for hibernation – not everyone had enough salmon, and the berry harvest was poor.
Shannon Stevens, her brother Eric and his girlfriend arrived on vacation in Alaska on February 13. They settled in a yurt, the toilet stood alone on the street. When Shannon went to the bathroom, someone from below bit her buttocks. This was reported by AP.
“I jumped up and screamed when it happened,” Stevens recalls.
Her brother ran to her cries. He thought Shannon had been bitten by a squirrel or a mink. Eric picked up his flashlight and went to find out who was in the cesspool.
“I picked up a chair, and there, right at the level of the toilet seat, was the snout of a bear looking straight through the hole at me. I just closed the lid as fast as I could. I said, ‘There’s a bear down there, we need to get out of here now.’ And we ran back to the yurt as fast as we could, “Eric said.
Already in the house the girl was treated for a wound. The bleeding was, but not serious. In case the situation worsened, Eric planned to take his sister to the nearest town, but it all worked out.
When the tourists left the yurt in the morning, they saw traces of a bear all over the surrounding area. The animal itself was no more.
Biologist Carl Koch suggested that the bear did not bite Shannon, but simply struck with his paw.
“As far as I know, she is the only person on Earth who got a paw on her ass while sitting on the toilet in the winter,” said the biologist.
After the event, Shannon plans to develop a new habit: to look in the toilet before sitting on it.
Earlier it was reported that in the American Glacier National Park, Montana, a group of tourists met a bear and ran away from him.
Also, a resident of the village of Asima Gorsky ulus in Yakutia, collided with a bear, scared the beast by shouting and burning a newspaper.
