For the sixth night in a row, protests took place in Spain against the sentencing of rapper Pablo Hassel to nine months in prison for insulting the monarchy and praising terrorism, world agencies reported.

In Barcelona, as in previous days, the demonstration began peacefully, but as night fell, tensions rose as protesters began pelting police in front of the main police station with stones, bottles and other objects. Protesters set up barricades and threw objects at the famous Rambla pedestrian street. According to police, nearly a thousand people took part in the protests.

Catalan police have arrested at least five protesters who smashed the windows of a clothing store and looted it. A police officer was injured in the arrest of the vandals.
