England impatiently awaits the end of confinement … not always respected

All of England is waiting for the end of confinement. The country has been subject to it for a month and a half due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Boris Johnson takes the floor on Monday February 22 to announce how the restrictions will be lifted, gradually, from March 8. Even if all the rules have not been scrupulously observed, the English are having a difficult winter.

In his delicatessen, Stéphane holds a privileged vantage point. He has seen his clients gradually bow to wearing the obligatory mask indoors. He also sees those who come several times a day, therefore in defiance of the travel restriction instruction. And then a few cases that make him smile, a few days ago: “This couple who showed up to buy raclette, it was for five people. In this period of confinement where we are not supposed to have guests at all at all, it seemed surprising to me. “

Francis does his shopping and then goes straight home, as restrictions dictate. Yet he does not trust his government: “I think they don’t know what they’re doing but we have to do as they say. Those who don’t follow the instructions penalize others, those who play by the rules.” Patrick is unemployed, this pandemic and the restrictions that accompany it, prevent him from finding a job. “It makes life harder but it is the case for everyone”, he notes.

“The measures imposed on us are not the right ones. Small businesses, for example, are suffering a lot. It doesn’t make a lot of sense.”

A long tunnel is an image that often comes up in the mouths of British prisoners. And in that of Stéphane the French grocer.“It’s still hard not to see your friends, to do nothing. We hold on but it’s a bit gray.” Boris Johnson’s announcements are expected Monday evening but it is well known that daily activities will be restricted at least until April.
