The deepening of our country’s cooperation with Middle Eastern countries is crucial, at a time when Turkey is isolating itself even from Muslim countries – How Panagiotopoulos’ moves strengthen the creation of an axis of security and stability in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.
With a basic strategy of diplomatic mobility and operational readiness against the aggressive tactics of Turkey, Greece proceeds with methodical moves and without drumbeats, in the strengthening of the cooperation with countries – “keys” in the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean.
It is not just the strategic relationship with France or Israel that is already well established. Our country is deepening its cooperation with countries in the Arab world, with the aim of creating one axis of security and stability in an area that literally smells of gunpowder.
We are united with the countries of the Middle East by the common desire for stability and security, for the observance of international law, for peace and prosperity. And it is a fact that these countries treat Greece as pillar of credibility and legitimacy in a geostrategically critical area, but also unstable due to the well-known and practically confirmed Turkish revisionist aspirations.
In this context, Political and military leadership of the Ministry of Defense are in the United Arab Emirates since Saturday (02/20), on a highly symbolic visit that causes a nervous breakdown in Ankara. The trip of the Minister of Defense Mr. Nikos Panagiotopoulos and the Chief of General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros to Abu Dhabi takes place on the occasion of the defense material exhibitions “IDEX2021” and “NAVDEX 2021” which are hosted in the Arab country. However, The truth is that the political and military leadership of the two countries seal their excellent relations and the will to deepen their cooperation.
We remind you that in 2020 the Emirati people twice sent troops to Greece for joint training. In Souda, the UAE F-16 block 60 flew for almost a month with the “gunpowder-smoked” pilots of the Greek fighters, while units of the UAE Navy participated in the exercise “MEDUSA 10”, which took place in the sea area of Cairo and was attended by Greece, Cyprus, Egypt, France and the Emirates. It was the loudest message to the “palace” that the “sultan” could not do what he wanted in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Our country therefore “reciprocates” the participation of the UAE in training activities of the Armed Forces, sending the frigate “HYDRA” to the Persian Gulf. From February 19, the Greek frigate gives the “present”, having sailed to the port of Zagent in Abu Dhabi.
At the same time, executives of the Interdisciplinary Special Operations Administration are in Dubai and are training in free fall simulator. The UAE has an “air tunnel”, ie a simulator for the training of free-fall parachutists. The Arabs invited the Greek SOFs who of course agreed to go to the Emirates and train with the Emirati commandos in a fully controlled environment. The joint training will be attended by the Chief of GEETHA, General Konstantinos Floros.

We must emphasize that the Emirati people are constantly pointing out the determination with which our country faced the Turkish challenges and this fact pushed them to want to upgrade their relations with us.
The more determined and credible we show and are, the stronger the alliances that will be built. Their importance, after all, in issues such as the experiences from the joint training of the personnel, the exchange of information and the assistance in military equipment, is enormous.
