Briton entered the Guinness Book of Records as the youngest woman to swim across the Atlantic in a rowboat
During the voyage, Jasmine kept in touch with relatives using a satellite phone. I talked to my mother every day.
British resident Jasmine Harrison, 21, became the youngest woman in the world to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a rowboat. On Sunday, February 21, TheGuardian reports.
The girl started on the island of Gomera (Spain) in December and after 70 days landed on the Caribbean island of Antigua.
Jasmine is a professional swimmer and an instructor. Her physical fitness is excellent, but the trip still did not go without incidents. So, the boat was once turned over by a wave, and then the girl injured her shoulder and during the last days of sailing she had to fight with severe pain. Her first words when she set foot on the ground were: “Food, please give me something to eat.”
Harrison called the voyage itself incomparable and especially noted the moment of departure from civilization.
“There is nothing like isolation – from social networks, bad news, from everything in the world,” – said the British.
Jasmine entered the Guinness Book of Records as the youngest woman to swim across the Atlantic in a rowboat.
Before Harrison, the youngest woman to cross the Atlantic in a rowboat alone was 22-year-old American Katie Spotz, who completed the route between January 3 and March 14, 2010. And the youngest single participant in the race to overcome the entire route was 18-year-old British-Italian-Austrian student Lucas Heizmann, in 2019 he covered the path in 59 days.
