1.2 million guaranteed 7.235 passengers used


CIMER announced the dire picture of the Zafer Airport, which was built with the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model and was expensive due to its lining. For Zafer Airport, which was built to serve Kütahya-Afyon-Uşak provinces, a passenger guarantee of 752 thousand 560 on domestic flights and 526 thousand 792 people on international flights was envisaged in 2020. In 2020, the number of domestic passengers remained at 4 thousand 746 and the number of international passengers at 2 thousand 489. Last year, the total number of passenger guarantees was 1 million 279 thousand 352 passengers, while the total number of passengers using the airport was limited to 7 thousand 235 passengers. While the passenger guarantee was given for the airport until 2044, IC İçtaş company operating the airport in 2020 was paid 6 million 738 thousand Euros for the passengers who were not. In 2021, the guaranteed number of passengers increased by approximately 40 thousand, reaching 775 thousand 137 persons on domestic flights and 542 thousand 596 persons on international flights. A total of 1 million 317 thousand 733 people guarantee is close to the population of 1 million 669 thousand of the three provinces.

CHP Kütahya deputy Ali Fazıl Kasap learned the information about the airport, which he could not get from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, through CIMER and said, “The state is robbed out of sight”. At Kütahya Zafer Airport, which was built with the BOT model in 2012, only 1 percent of the guaranteed passenger number given to the contractor company could be reached. Butcher said, “Because of the Zafer Airport, which has a 99 percent margin of error and only covers 1 percent of the guarantee, 60 million liras in a year came out from the state’s coffers.”

CONTRACTS ARE NOT CONVERTED TO TL

CHP Kütahya deputy Ali Fazıl Kasap told SÖZCÜ, “The government, which does not translate the provisions of the contracts of these investments that cause damage to the public, into Turkish Lira, continues to enrich its supporters. Costing 50 million Euros, Zafer Airport will continue to be operated by a company called IC İçtaş until 2044. “Billions of Euros will be lost to the state by 2044 due to this lack of foresight and calculation errors.”
