The United States extradited to Germany its citizen, who lived in the US state of Tennessee. In 1945, Friedrich Karl Berger, 95, served as a security guard at a concentration camp in Noengamm near Meppen. The man has lived in the United States for over 60 years.
This was reported by Reuters.
In Germany, the ex-guard of the concentration camp was transported by ambulance. Upon arrival at Frankfurt airport, he faces interrogation by local police. The man was not arrested.
In March 2020, a court in the United States ruled to expel Berger from the country. The man then admitted that he was guarding the prisoners of the concentration camp to prevent them from escaping. The court found that the prisoners were held in appalling conditions and, as in other camps, engaged in forced labor and were forced to work “until exhaustion and death.”
Earlier, charges were filed in Germany A 100-year-old former concentration camp warden. Prosecutors accused him of involvement in the deaths of 3,518 people.
