Soldiers from an elite unit of the Bundeswehr, who were on exercises in Arizona, USA, were mistaken for terrorists. This is reported by the edition Der Spiegel.
Two fighters visited a local hospital in order to find out if doctors could provide German soldiers with medical assistance in the event of emergency situations or coronavirus infection.
However, the visitors to the clinic did not show their identity documents, as a result of which they were mistaken for terrorists who were allegedly involved in preparing an attack on the hospital.
The FBI contacted the German Embassy in Washington, but there, due to high secrecy, they did not know about the exercises of the German special forces in Arizona. Only as a result of numerous calls to Germany did the situation become clear.
Earlier it was reported that the United States changed its mind to withdraw its troops from Germany. According to the head of the US European Command, Tod Walters, the Pentagon has currently suspended preparations for the withdrawal of troops. The new head of the department, Lloyd Austin, has already begun a thorough revision of the plan to redeploy US troops to other European countries, proposed by the previous administration.
