Turkish Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian Hassan Rouhani
Iranian Presidents Hassan Rouhani and Turkish Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed by phone the regional cooperation between the two countries and “Iran’s strategy towards the new US administration regarding the nuclear deal.”
During the call, Rouhani stressed “strengthening cooperation between Tehran and Ankara to confront common threats and resolve issues in the region,” noting that “confronting unilateral and illegal US actions is through solidarity between countries under the weight of Washington’s sanctions.”
He added that “the abolition of US sanctions is a legal and logical requirement,” and that Tehran “will respond to the implementation of the obligations to implement the obligations and are ready to return to our commitments with the lifting of the American sanctions.”
Regarding the Syrian file, Rouhani said that his country “encourages dialogue and adopts peaceful methods to settle differences in Syria,” stressing the need for “continuing dialogue between Iran, Russia and Turkey with the aim of solving problems in Syria, including preparing the atmosphere for the return of Syrian refugees and codifying the Syrian constitution.”
For his part, Erdogan said he wished that “the Biden administration will abandon the sanctions imposed on Tehran and remove unjust obstacles to the welfare of the Iranian people.”
The Turkish president pointed out that he sees “an opportunity between Iran and the United States after recent statements regarding sanctions.”
