On Thursday, Israel revealed that it is working on developing a new ballistic missile shield (Arrow-4) in cooperation with the United States.
The Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 missile systems are a new level of defense system that it has built with a special focus on Iran, and is already operating within a multi-level system aimed at intercepting and destroying incoming missiles in the airspace and space.
“The development of the Arrow-4 with our American partners will lead to a technical and field leap and prepare us for the future battlefield, and the threats that arise in the Middle East and beyond,” Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said in a statement.
Israeli leaders described Iran’s ballistic missile program as a threat to Israel and the world.
According to the Israeli Ministry of Defense, the Israeli Aerospace Industries Company, affiliated with Tel Aviv, will be the main contractor for the development of the Arrow-4 system.
Earlier, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli army, Aviv Kochavi, said that his country’s army is renewing its operational plans drawn up to confront Iran.
“Returning to the nuclear agreement signed in 2015, even if it was a similar agreement after many improvements, is bad and wrong from an operational and strategic point of view,” General Kohavi added in a speech to the Institute for National Security Studies at Tel Aviv University.
Former US President Donald Trump withdrew his country from the nuclear deal in 2018, in a move welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who criticized the agreement for its lifting of sanctions, and also warned of the possibility of Iran developing nuclear weapons after its term expires.
