Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed with his Qatari counterpart Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani in Tehran today, a number of issues of common concern between the two countries.
Zarif stressed “the need for cooperation between the countries of the region to solve the issues and reach a stable regional arrangement,” stressing that “Qatar can play an important role in this context.”
For his part, the Qatari Foreign Minister indicated that Doha is ready to expand bilateral relations at all levels, including the economic field with Iran, appreciating all the assistance provided by Tehran during the period of the Gulf crisis, within the framework of expanding bilateral relations and within the framework of regular consultations between the two sides.
Al-Thani stressed “the need for a new approach and comprehensive cooperation in the region,” expressing his country’s readiness to play a major and effective role in this regard.
The Qatari minister expressed his hope that the issues would be resolved within the framework of regional initiatives as soon as possible.
Last Wednesday, Al-Thani announced his country’s readiness to support the political and diplomatic process for the return of Iran and America to the nuclear deal and the reduction of regional tensions.
“We welcome this assistance … Qatar is one of Iran’s regional friends, and there are close consultations between the two countries at various levels,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatib Zadeh, in response to a question about Qatar’s efforts to revive the nuclear deal between Iran and the United States.
